COVID-19 CRISIS RESPONSE SUPPORT PROGRAM (CCRSP)
In the year, we operated in Bolton, Bury, Manchester city, Salford city and Wigan. Towards the end of 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 crisis that necessitated government lockdowns and restrictions leading to so many sufferings and hardships in our community especially among the elderly, single mums, and the vulnerable, we began to make consultations on the way forward for these people. So, in early 2021, we came up with a response with this project COVID-19 CRISIS RESPONSE SUPPORT PROGRAM (CCRSP) in partnership with the National Lottery Award for All. CCRSP was designed to provide camaraderie advice and support for the elderly and vulnerable in our community who were adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Furthermore, CCRSP created a platform for us to distribute essential material relief to them for single Mums struggling with their little ones.Equally, in order to provide camaraderie, advice/support to elderly, vulnerable, and single parents within our community, we created an online strategic streaming service to help us maintain contact with our beneficiaries as well as increase our reach and engagement with them and other potential users.
HOT MEALS FOR THE HOMELESS PROJECT
YOUTH INSPIRE
Through our Youth Inspire project, we supported young people from the BAME community in Wigan and Bolton, in collaboration with Loveworld. We work with young people who have migrated with their families to the UK and they face a number of challenges which we addressed through this project. Statistics for mental health issues within the BAME communities reveal BAME young people are twice as likely to be referred to mental health services through social care or youth justice than through primary care. Our aim was to empower 30 young people with skills for life, integration into community and create an atmosphere for them to thrive while mixing with others which would improve their self esteem, mental health and wellbeing. We held engagement workshops on improving confidence/self-esteem, coping skills, skills for sustainability/environment and skills for education, work and volunteering. The young people also had the opportunity to share their experiences and changes they’d love to see in the community while being inspired by BAME youth above 25years who have successfully overcome these challenges to become people of repute in the community. The youth were inspired and empowered with skills and tools to succeed in spite of their peculiar challenges and societal issues.
MEALS2U PROJECT
The aim of this project was to provide cooked hot meals to families and individuals who struggled to afford or prepare food for themselves and help combat the rise in food poverty around Bolton and Wigan. We carried out a hot meal delivery service where our Street Volunteers delivered cooked meals directly to the homeless and to the homes of those who are financially or physically unable to provide for themselves. This project was very beneficial to the homeless and to those members of our community who find it difficult to cook or travel due to age, illness, and or childcare commitments.
